Star Wars - Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), motion picture, Lucasfilms, 20th Century Fox.

STAR WARS FILMING LOCATION in SPAIN

Plaza de España - Av. Isabel la Católica, 41004 Sevilla, Spain

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to travel to a galaxy far, far away in order to experience the best moments of the Galactic Empire. You just need to travel to Seville, Spain! Although Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios is giving real location traveling a run for its money, there is something magical about walking about the Theed Palace (aka the Plaza de España).

In Star Wars : Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones (2002) we get quite a few scenes of Theed Palace located on the planet of Naboo. The overall shots and exterior moments with Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) are filmed here in Spain. Whereas, the interior scenes are filmed in Italy. You can see Anakin and Padmé walking across one of the bridges, and through the covered pathways.

In 1929, the Plaza de España was originally built as a portion of the World’s Fair to showcase Spain’s industry and technology exhibits. Today, the Plaza de España has been adapted for government agency offices. The entire exterior is open to the public and is connected to the surrounding Parque de María Luisa. You can get a horse and buggy ride around the park, or rent a rowboat around the plaza.

In addition to Star Wars, the Plaza de España was used as filming locations for Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and The Dictator (2012). While in Seville, make sure you head to the Royal Alcázar of Seville. It is a filming location for Dorne in Game of Thrones (2011-2019) and it is right around the corner.
