Toronto is the home of Amazon’s ‘The Boys’, visit the filming locations!

PLOT: What if the Avengers were run by a cutthroat and corrupt mega corporation that manufactures superheroes in order to push a corporate agenda? Well, you’d be living in the world of Amazon Prime’s The Boys (2019-Current). If you are a superhero fan and haven’t watched this show, then RUN to Amazon and get on it! The Boys stars some heavy hitters like Elizabeth Shue, Karl Urban and Chase Crawford as well as some breakout stars like Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty.

LOCATION

Like many productions set in New York, the actual filming location of The Boys is all over Toronto. Compared to other superhero properties, The Boys’s first season had a relatively small budget. They couldn’t spend a lot of money to disguise the city, which is great for us to identify filming locations. Especially buildings like Roy Thomson Hall, which is an iconic Toronto landmark.

Vought International acts as the headquarters and home for Homelander (Antony Starr) and the rest of the superhero group, The Seven. In the show, the headquarters is a giant skyscraper along the New York skyline. In reality, Vought International consists of a mid-rise Toronto concert hall, and a heavy amount of CGI.

ARCHITECTURE

Roy Thomson Hall is a concert venue in the heart of Toronto. It was built in 1982 and designed by famous Canadian architect, Arthur Erikson. This 2600 seat theatre has been home to some amazing symphonies. My favourite performances have been the Star Wars and Harry Potter movies “Live on Stage” orchestra shows. The hall also acts as one of the main venues for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

AS SEEN ON SCREEN

As mentioned above, Roy Tompson Hall is used for both exterior and interior scenes of Vought International headquarters. The iconic curved glass of the concert hall is easily recognizable and lends itself well to a CGI overlay.
